John Glinsman, MA, BCH
I have over 20 years of experience both personally and professionally in the fields of attachment, trauma, and community wellness. Through my work, my studies, and my own experiences, I understand how deeply impacting depression, anxiety, and insomnia can be, and I am intimately familiar with the effects of trauma throughout the lifespan, especially the impact of early childhood trauma upon relationships, health, and wellness later on in adult life.
Early attachment trauma can result in significant challenges to health and wellness including stress related issues, muscle tension, anxiety, fear, depression, and difficulties in making or sustaining close relationships due to anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment styles. Additionally, I understand the importance of spiritual beliefs and the difficulty of feeling grounded in life if one has experienced spiritual or religious deconstruction.
If your ability to thrive in life has been impacted by any of the above or by other challenging life experiences, I'm here to support you through my unique hypnotherapy practice. My practice is informed by my studies in trauma and attachment, somatics, parts based work, neuroscience and neurophysiology, concepts drawn from Polyvagal Theory, and perhaps most significantly, the insights I have received in finding health and wellness in my own life and my work with others.
Quite simply, hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention associated with shifts in brain-wave activity. Similar to meditation, it can help the nervous system feel safe and at ease. It’s a state your body already knows, like the state between wakefulness and sleep. Most of us enter this state regularly while driving, reading, or daydreaming. My role is simply to guide you into this natural state in a safe and supportive way.
I have found hypnotherapy to be deeply helpful in supporting pattern change and meaningful transformation. The goal is not just to talk about change, but to support change as it feels safe to do so. As mentioned above, hypnosis can help the nervous system move toward a state of safety and ease. From this state, change that may feel difficult or inaccessible in a more guarded state can become more possible.
While hypnosis can support the process of change, there is never any pressure to do so. In my experience, transformation happens when the nervous system feels truly ready. My role is not to force or trick your nervous system, but to gently facilitate the process by which it comes to recognize that it is safe to change.
It is very important to me that we focus on your goals and intentions from the first session going forward. During the consultation, intake, and initial session, I work to establish as much clarity as possible around the changes you are seeking. In most situations, I typically suggest a minimum of five sessions, after which we can reevaluate and continue with follow-up as needed.
Sessions take place online and typically last about 90 minutes (plus or minus 15 minutes) and are divided into two parts. The first part includes psychoeducation, supportive listening, practical suggestions, and follow-up on goals. I also make room for anything unexpected that may arise during our work.
In the second part of the session, we focus on the transformation you are seeking through hypnosis. I gently guide you into a light yet sufficient state of hypnosis. Then, using a unique combination of somatic parts-based work and imaginal processing, we explore your goals through awareness of your own internal resources. You remain in full agency during the process. This approach is designed to support greater self-awareness, confidence, and meaningful change for the goals you seek.
